SEAN Millwaters was delighted to see Supermarine show a different side to their game as they made it back-to-back wins at the start of the Dorset & Wilts One North season with a 33-22 triumph at home to Chippenham 2nd.

Supermarine were at their attacking best in a 79-0 rout of Trowbridge 2nd on the opening day of the campaign but altered their play to counter a similarly offensive-minded Chippenham outfit.

Monty Green, Iestyn Harry, George Cowley, Owain Hire and Jamie Barrett all dotted down as Marine raced into a 33-12 lead, with Sean Reece adding four conversions, although Millwaters was slightly aggrieved by some late lapses which saw the visitors get closer on the scoreboard.

“I had to make 10 changes but we had a couple of our older players make themselves available as well. We had a good team but we didn’t have a lot of depth,” said head coach Millwaters.

“The guys did really well and we played some really good rugby.

“Against Trowbridge the week before we played an expansive game and ran them all over the place but that’s the game Chippenham wanted to play, so we tightened it up and it showed me we have the ability in the squad to play different styles of rugby based on how the opposition play.

“The first 10 minutes were really flat and it was almost as if both teams were scared of doing something. I said ‘you’re waiting for something to happen, just get on and do it’. Within a couple of minutes we had gone the length of the pitch to score.

“At half-time it was 14-12 but from there we switched on and dominated for 25 minutes and ran in three tries but in the last few minutes we let in some soft tries. It made it look a lot closer than it was.”
