THE destination of the Southern Counties South title could become clearer on Saturday when league leading Royal Wootton Bassett travel to second-placed Midsomer Norton.

Alan Low’s side sit nine points clear of their nearest challengers, having played a game more going into the weekend.

With Bassett having just five games left after the tomorrow’s clash, a lead of 12 points will be the minimum they will come out with should they win, could prove to be unassailable.

“We have probably looked at this one for a while,” said Low.

“We haven’t talked about it too much with the players because it is about focusing on the weekend in hand.

“We’re here and we are into that week now.

“If we were to go down there and get a win then it just gives us that bit of breathing space, although they are still picking up regular bonus points and that is what is keeping them in it.

“I would like to think that we can go down there and get a result.

“We have a cracking side at the moment with strength in depth so I would like us to go down there and if we do our thing right we will be in a decent place to get a positive result.”

Bassett completed a 12-6 win when the two sides met at Ballard’s Ash earlier in the season and, should they repeat that result, Low is hoping it will free up his side.

“Obviously we will keep the focus on the games in hand but that bit of pressure that might come off the players might let them play with a little bit more flair,” he added.

“The message won’t change from us off the field.

“The work Stu Roberts has done with the backs has been fantastic and the lads are really starting to hit home how they can play.

“It might just unshackle them a little bit.”

Bassett will sweat on the fitness of Gary Williamson and Hamish Forbes-Keith, who both went off during last weekend’s win over Dorset Dockers.

“We picked up quite a few injuries at the weekend,” said Low.

“Gary has got a bit of a niggle so we took him off early. In all honesty we probably could have left him on a little bit longer than we did.

“Hamish, he has just come back from a long-term injury, and has picked up a different injury which he is being assessed on.”
