SWINDON RFC will host their annual sevens festival at Greenbridge Road on Saturday.

The tournament, which is now in its fourth year, has attracted some outstanding teams for this year’s contest, including internationally-renowned side and Hong Kong Sevens finalists Public School Wanderers, the Royal Navy Sharks, 2016 South West Sevens champions 7Bamboos and last year’s runners-up Ponty Butchers.

These teams will be competing against familiar faces from last year as well as several new teams, all of whom are regulars on the national seven-a-side circuit, to win the Elite Cup competition, which has a first prize of £1,000.

As well as the Elite competition, this year’s festival also includes a Social Cup competition to meet the growing interest in rugby sevens at all levels.

This features teams from Swindon and the surrounding area, including Swindon St George Rugby League and Painswick RFC.

The Swindon 7s Social competition is one of only 32 tournaments in the country to have been selected by the RFU to be part of the England Rugby 24/Sevens Series, a national seven-a-side competition.

Entry to the Swindon 7s Rugby Festival is free for spectators. The first matches kick-off at 11am and play continues throughout the day, with 32 matches to be played in total, culminating with the final at 6pm.

As well as the rugby, there will be a BBQ, licensed bars and tea, coffee and other refreshments also available.

The site opens for spectators at 10am and car parking is available at Swindon RFC.
