IN Dorset and Wilts 1 North, Cricklade overcame Swindon 2nds 26-12 in atrocious conditions on Saturday.

Simon Howse gave Cricklade the initiative with an early score before Swindon fought back to level matters.

Dave Cox scored twice for the visitors to give Cricklade breathing space, and although the hosts pulled to within two scores, it was always going to be too little too late.

Minety’s 2nds battled through awful conditions to edge powerful Minchinhampton out of this year’s Stroud Combination Cup.

The long coach journey did not seem to affect the Cirencester players at all as they came out from the kick-off with all guns blazing.

Ratu opened the scoring with a quick outside break, before James Fisher scored under the posts, with Parry converting, to extend the lead.

Ratu again broke through the defensive line to feed Wood for the visitors’ third score, and Ciren led 21-3 at the break.

The second half was a much more competitive, but Parry scampered over for the first try of the period to leave Cirencester home and dry.

Bideford grabbed a consolation in the corner, but Max Dawe reasserted the lead, steaming in under the sticks.

In the dying stages, Bideford crossed again for a converted try, but from the restart Cirencester regained control of the ball and James Fisher barrelled over for his second of the match.

Elsewhere, Minety, Cirencester & Supermarine RFC under 15 girls (Super Miren) lost out 20-29 to Chipping Sodbury at the weekend.

On a heavy pitch, both sides made plenty of handling errors.

Chipping Sodbury grabbed a converted try to open the scoring, but Alice Luce was on hand to level affairs before the hosts accelerated away to take a 24-5 lead into half time.

Super Miren fought back with two tries reducing the arrears, but the hosts held on to their narrow lead.

Minety and Cirencester under 18 girls blitzed Cinderford under 18 girls 34-5.

Amelia Buckland-Hurry capitalised on a scrum won against the head, to pick up and drive to score Miren’s first try, but Cinderford replied and went into the break level at 5-5.

The second half was a different story, and Miren took the lead when left wing Catrin Garland was put clear to score in the corner.

Garland claimed her second minutes later with a run in from half way.

A powerful run from Jenny Benton and sublime pass put Adriane Blair over near the posts to further the lead, and the winger touched down twice more before the game’s conclusion to complete her personal hat-trick and an emphatic team win.

Wootton Bassett Under 13s secures a place in the semi-final of the cup with a 19-0 victory over Devizes.

Two tries from wing Owain Kinsman with one from inside-centre Sam Fry, pictured below, proved the difference between the sides as Bassett built on a solid opening period to dominate the second half en route to an impressive win.
