ANDY Moore was a winner at Peterborough last week - and has set his sights on a repeat in today's Knockout Cup clash against the Panthers (4pm).

Moore, who unlike his Swindon teammates is not currently booked for league rides in countries such as Sweden or Poland, helped Britain to lift the inaugural Short Track of Nations title at the East of England Showground, beating Italy, Holland and the United States.

No silverware is immediately up for grabs back there this afternoon, although a place in the semi-finals of the cup is a considerable prize to aim for.

And Moore is keen on the Robins maintaining the hot form that has yielded six wins on the trot in the league and captured the attention of Swindon's rivals.

Moore, a man-of-the-match performer with paid 10 against Lakeside Hammers on Thursday, said: "People are sitting up and noticing us now.

"We've only got to get better because we have two matches in hand (in the league) and we've got to make the best of them.'' On his weekend in Peterborough, he said: "I really enjoy that (Short Track). It kept my fitness up and it was really good fun.

"It's around a speedway track, sliding around the corners but the bikes are bigger, heavier and it's taken from the American style of racing.

"It's slightly different. You have to go slow into the corners to come out faster, so it's a slightly different technique.

"But I seem to ride it speedway style and get away with it!'' Moore will be hoping that experience stands Robins in good stead, as they try to wipe out the memory of their last visit to Peterborough - a 58-35 Elite League thrashing at Easter.

However, Panthers team boss Trevor Swales is convinced his side are in for a tougher examination this time around.

He told his club website: "I think the match will be totally different.

"Obviously I would like as much of a lead as possible to take to Swindon for the second leg, but we need to win the match first and then think about establishing a lead for the second leg, although I firmly believe Swindon is a track that the Panthers can win at.

Co-promoter Mick Bratley added: "Swindon historically do not travel well to Alwalton and our side seems to have clicked into gear.

"We seem to be quietly getting on with our job in the Elite League and the KO Cup is a nice diversion.

"We were very sore as a club to get knocked out in the first round of this competition last season; we are committed to do a lot better this season.

"It is a trophy we definitely want in our cabinet.''
