SKIPPER Jason Doyle is targeting two wins from what could be an important week in Swindon Robins’ play-off push.

Swindon have put a run of three defeats, which ended a six-meeting unbeaten run, behind them with back-to-back victories over Leicester Lions and Lakeside Hammers.

Now with two home meetings this week, starting with the arrival of Coventry Bees this evening, Doyle is hoping they can put another run together to keep them in the play-off picture with 13 meetings to go.

“We all need to step it up a bit, especially at home, and try to get ourselves on another winning run because we’ve already done it once,” he said.

“We need to get two more wins this week, and although it’s not going to be easy it’s definitely achievable.

“I think we have a stronger team than Coventry, but we’ll have to be on top of our game because they have some quality riders.

“Wolverhampton will be another tough one on Thursday because they are going well and won at our place earlier in the season, but we can’t afford to lose any more at home.

“Hopefully all the boys can pull together and we can make sure it’s a good week for us to keep on track for the play-offs.”

Doyle will be full of confidence this evening as he returns to the Abbey Stadium for the first time as a Grand Prix winner, following his success in the Czech Republic, and is now reaping the rewards of the hard work he and his team have put in.

“It’s a long road. For the young kids who start off thinking they’re going to make it straight away, it’s a big wake-up call,” he said.

“I did it the hard way and you really appreciate the best things when they happen.

“When I first made it into the Grand Prix last year, I didn’t know what was going to happen.

“But I have invested a lot and I’ve got some really great guys working for me. I know sometimes I give them a really hard time, but they wanted it as much as I did.

“When I won, they were at the pit gate first and that just shows what a team I have got.”
