ROBINS set themselves up perfectly for a titanic week as they ended their home 2007 league campaign with an emphatic victory over Ipswich Witches last night.

Despite only leading 13-11 after four heats, they powered away to a 38-point triumph, taking the last 11 races 51-15.

The win should certainly set them up for at least the aggregate point in the return at Foxhall Heath on Saturday.

And it also meant that Robins have gone through the entire season without dropping a point at home - the first time they have achieved this since 1967 when they won the British League crown.

Can this be an omen?

The win also consolidated Robins position at the top of the Elite League table and kept their hopes of a top two finish and home match advantage in the play-offs well and truly a reality.

Away tests at Poole (tomorrow), Reading (Friday) and Ipswich (Saturday) now come in quick succession and look set to shape the remainder of Swindon's season.

Team boss Alun Rossiter said: "I am pretty happy with that win tonight. It was a job well done and I couldn't have asked for any more.

"It was a very good team performance, watched by a good crowd, who were very vocal. Hopefully, some of them will travel with us during the next week.

"We have a very important week coming up. To be honest, it is a massive week for us.

"We need to pick up two or three away wins together with the bonus points.

"We have such a long break now before the next home meeting. Hopefully, the fans and good crowd will come back.

"We need to keep the momentum going. We have the points on the board. All of the top clubs have still to race each other on the run-in.'' Skipper Leigh Adams added: "It was great victory and good for our confidence. We must build that up.

"We have a hectic week ahead of us, we have made Swindon a fortress now we need to pick up some away wins this week.

"We have the team to do it.'' All of the Swindon side contributed to the victory as well as three maximums being recorded.

Charlie Gjedde registered four bonus points in a full house paid 15 and deservedly took the rider of the night award.

Lee Richardson reeled off four straight wins, while skipper Adams was unbeaten by an opponent in his four outings.

Tomasz Chrzanowski weighed in with paid 10 and Sebastian Ulamek improved as the night unfolded for his first double-figure for some time.

The two reserves, Andrew Moore and Mads Korneliussen, produced vital contributions and outscored their counterparts.

For the visitors, reserve Tobias Kroner won two races to top score with eight points, while Kim Janssen was next best.

But in reality they once again proved very weak and extremely poor opposition.

Adams, after his lap of honour to celebrate his GP win in Latvia on Saturday, opened in style.

He blasted to victory in the opener in a very quick time of under 65 seconds and with partner Chrzanowski third, Robins opened with a 4-2.

Race two was shared, but then Swindon powered further clear in the next.

Richardson and Gjedde both came from the back on the pits bend on laps one and two respectively to pass Chris Louis for Swindon's first 5-1 of the night.

However, the out-of-sorts pairing of Ulamek and Korneliussen then surrendered an easy 5-1 of their own to the opposition in the fourth.

The sequence of 5-1s continued as Richardson and Gjedde outgunned Kim Janssen and Louis to increase the advantage to 18-12.

And the gap became 10 points as Chrzanowski stormed away to win heat six, while Adams had to come from the back to pass Pole Robert Miskowiak for second spot.

Ulamek finally made a reasonable gate to win seven and with Moore third, the gap increased to 12 points.

Witches' team boss John Louis then played his joker (tactical ride) in race eight.

But the tactic with Kroner backfired completely.

Chrzanowski flew out of the gate and race away away to his second win, while Korneliussen took third keeping the slowly-away Kroner at the back.

No points from the tactical ride and a 4-2 for Swindon extended the lead to 31-17 and killed off any hopes that visitors may have had of producing a reasonable performance.

The onslaught continued as Swindon well and truly turned the screw with four maximums and two 4-2s in the next six races.

Richardson and Gjedde registered the third maximum of the night in nine and then Adams and Chrzanowski followed up with another in the 10th.

Ipswich halted the run as Miskowiak split Ulamek and Moore for only a 4-2 in 11.

But it was back to business as usual in the next as the Witches' spell was broken again with Richardson and Korneliussen and then Ulamek and Adams registering 5-1s in 12 and 13 to extend the massive lead to 55-23.

The lively Ipswich reserve and top scorer Kroner split Gjedde and Moore in the 14th for only' a 4-2.

However in the final heat, Robins fired in their eighth maximum of the night as Ulamek and Gjedde blasted away the challenge of Jansson and Kroner.

It gave Gjedde his fourth bonus point of the night to complete a five-ride paid maximum.
