SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle collected five points at Saturday night’s Wroclaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland as Bartosz Zmarzlik took victory in front of a home crowd.

Doyle’s haul drops him outside the top eight on the world championship standings, with the Australian now down in ninth place.

Polish ace Zmarzlik, meanwhile, sits on top of the leaderboard after roaring to his second GP win of 2019, topping the podium at the Olympic Stadium ahead of Slovakian Martin Vaculik and Danish rider Leon Madsen.

Zmarzlik sits on 61 points – level with Russia’s Emil Sayfutdinov and Madsen – but is ahead of his rivals by virtue of his FIM ranking.

For Doyle, his night’s work got off to a tough start as he failed to score in the first of his five heat rides as he came home in fourth place.

The Robins skipper raised his game for his second race and took a second-placed finish to get on the scoreboard for the first time on the night.

Things got even better for Doyle in his third outing as the Aussie took a classy victory to jump onto five points.

However, the 33-year-old could not build on that strong position as he failed to score in each of his next two rides – finishing fourth each time – as he missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals.

Zmarzlik, meanwhile, was delighted to take the win and a huge 17-point haul, but admits he had to fight for it.

“I think that was the best GP in history because there were so many riders changing places all night. It was nice speedway," said Zmarzlik.

“I’m very happy because this is my first win in Poland away from my home track Gorzow. I am very happy because I scored good points and it was a good meeting. It was good work today. It wasn’t so easy at the start, but the last heats were the best.

“I am not looking at the table. I am only looking at my work. Today was one story and we’ll see what happens.

“I’m just riding, doing my thing and doing my job. Everywhere I ride, I want to be the best.

“I cannot guarantee any result, though. I really wish I can be as good as I have recently been in Sweden in Malilla next time.

"This is a Grand Prix so I can’t predict my result. But I hope it will be the best.”
