SWINDON boss Ronnie Russell cannot wait to see his favourite Polish double act team up again at Blunsdon.

With Maciej Janowski already a confirmed starter for 2011, Grzegorz Zengota looks set to join his fellow countryman, having agreed contract terms with the Robins hierarchy.

The 22-year-old now just needs to put pen to paper before the deal is finalised, believed to be a matter of days away.

While Zengota and Janowski are well-known around the Abbey Stadium for the mischief they cause in the pits, their explosive riding has caused even more of a stir and Russell is looking forward to combining the youngsters once more, provided Zengota signs as expected.

“We believe we’re in a position to sign contracts with him now,” confirmed Russell.

“I see those two riders as playing a very key role next season because they actually do bounce off each other.

“They are almost my own ‘Morecambe & Wise Show’ in the pits at times, and they respond to each other’s riding styles and skills.

“I see that pairing as being a massive part of what we’re intending to do.”

Zengota started on a five-point average last season after signing for his debut campaign in England, and while he quickly settled into a rhythm at Blunsdon, found it difficult to adapt some of the Elite League’s away tracks.

But a handful of decent hauls on the road in the latter part of the campaign saw him up his average by more than half a point, and Russell expects that improvement to continue.

“He had his year of looking and learning and now he will go back to these places,” said Russell.

“When he went to Wolverhampton the first time he couldn’t get through the first turn, but when he went back the next time he beat Freddie Lindgren. He’s had his learning year and I fully expect him to be heading towards an eight-point average.

“I think we’ll have the same from Janowski.

“He seemed to dial into the away tracks very quickly so we’re anticipating he’ll adapt a bit quicker.”

Robins boss Russell was keen to bring attention back on Swindon following a quiet start to the year, overshadowed by the heated debate over whether reigning champions Coventry, as well as Peterborough, will run in the Elite League, or even if the league would go ahead at all.

“Don’t worry about the politics of speedway, the sport is bigger than that,” he said.

“We’ll be at the tapes in a challenge match versus Lakeside on Thursday the 24th of March. Fact.”

The youngster finished a surprise fourth place in the recent Australian Under 21 final.
