BLUNSDON king Leigh Adams has thanked his legions of fans for their support following his devastating off-road accident Down Under.

The Swindon legend, who retired from British racing at the end of last year, sustained major injuries including spinal damage in practice for the Finke Desert Race last month, and has since undergone intensive rehabilitation.

But despite currently being confined to a wheelchair, Adams, touched by the worldwide interest in his welfare, is remaining upbeat about the future.

“I have been overwhelmed with the support and interest from around the globe,” he said.

“I am remaining positive. Thanks to the public for giving me the personal space and time I need.

“Hopefully one day I’ll be able to travel around to thank everyone.”

Meanwhile, Formula One superstar Mark Webber has joined forces with Williams technical director Sam Michael and German motorsport journalist Norbert Ockenga to raise funds for Adams with an eBay charity auction.

All proceeds will go to the Leigh Adams Rehab Fund, with lots including a Red Bull Racing rear wing endplate, paddock passes for the Belgian Grand Prix and tours of the Williams factory.

The eBay user ID is leighadamsrehabauction and the auction will end on Saturday.
