SWINDON were on the receiving end of a 59-33 Elite League thumping at Eastbourne this afternoon, as Bjarne Pedersen and Joonas Kylmakorpi bagged paid maximum hauls.

Robins number one Scott Nicholls endured a torrid afternoon, his equipment arriving late for the start before he was penalised for a tape violation in heat one and subsequently crashing on a tactical ride.

But although Nicholls’ score of five was disappointing, in truth no Swindon rider could afford to be particularly pleased with their afternoon’s work as the hosts dominated at Arlington, winning 13 of the 15 heats.

The meeting begun in the worst possible fashion for the visitors, managed temporarily by ex-boss Ronnie Russell, as Nicholls' equipment arrived just minutes before the scheduled start.

The Robins number one then went through the tapes and had to settle for third in the re-run as the Eagles grabbed a maximum.

That was followed by another 5-1 in the reserves’ contest, and a second place from Nicolai Klindt, who arrived minutes before the meeting's start, in the next outing could not prevent the Eagles opening up a commanding 14-4 advantage.

Joonas Kylmakorpi won for Eastbourne next before Nicholls’ exclusion on a tactical put the visitors in further trouble, Lewis Bridger and Cameron Woodward securing a home maximum.

Guest Ryan Fisher and Bjarne Pedersen banked another 5-1 and honours were shared in heat seven, before Klindt finally gave the travelling fans something to smile about with a black-and-white-helmet win.

Nevertheless, the deficit was 33-18 and Bridger’s third straight victory of the afternoon ensured Eastbourne kept their 15-point advantage.

It got worse for Swindon as Klindt was excluded in heat 10, with Pedersen winning the re-run from the gate, before Kylmakorpi grabbed his third victory of the afternoon in the next race.

The interval did not diminish the Swede’s inspiration as he took the chequered flag twice more, the lead becoming an alarming 52-29.

Guest Ricky Kling won Swindon’s second race of the day in heat 14, but Pedersen and Kylmakorpi completed their paid maximums of paid 15 and paid 18 respectively with a 5-1 in heat 15.
