SWINDON team manager Alun Rossiter is finally looking forward to getting his team back out on the track when they travel to Wimborne Road to face Poole tonight.

The Robins’ last six meetings have all fallen victim to the wet weather which has caused havoc with British speedway over the last month, and Rossiter’s side have not been in action since April 16.

Rain is scheduled for this morning but it is expected to clear up in time for tonight’s televised meeting, and Rossiter is looking forward to going head to head with the Elite League champions. “It will be nice to get a meeting on because we have not ridden for a while, but during that time we have remained focused on what we are doing.

“The boys have all been riding a fair bit in Europe with the exception of Simon Stead who has maybe missed out a little bit, but I know we will be alright because we are focussed.

“I know we are capable of winning down there and we want to show what we can do and extend our good start to the season.”

The Pirates go into the meeting with top two Chris Holder and Darcy Ward in sparkling form, and Rossiter knows they will be strong again tonight.

“Those two have been near enough unbeatable in recent weeks, but we will do our best to give them a good go.,” he said.

“They are important to what they try and do, but our top riders are strong and are capable of beating them. Troy Batchelor has had a couple of good scores in Poland recently, so that will help his confidence.”

Both sides go into the meeting unbeaten so far this season, with Poole producing two stunning away victories in recent weeks to upset both Wolverhampton and Lakeside on their own tracks.

Promoter Matt Ford has been impressed with the way his riders have gone about their business in recent weeks, particularly the riders at the bottom end of the team.

“Without question the performances of our supporting riders has given us the platform to win at Wolverhampton and Lakeside,” he said. “We have made a great start to the season and are determined to keep the run going.

“You can understand why Rosco fancies their chances as Hans, Troy and Jason are all capable of decent scores around our circuit and they have Peter Kildemand scoring consistently too.

“We haven’t had a home meeting for a couple of weeks and I’m hoping fans come out in force. After the recent wins away from home the boys deserve a huge ovation on their return.”

Both teams will be keeping a watchful eye on afternoon developments at Rye House today, as Sam Masters (Poole) and Jason Doyle (Swindon) will be riding for Premier League side Somerset in a meeting which starts at 2pm, before travelling to the South Coast.
