Council has to kerb spending
A resident of Whitworth Road asks why he should have to pay the council to install a dropped kerb which would allow him to move his car off the road and onto land adjoining his council house (Adver, November 6).
Mr Davies suggests that as the property is owned by the council and in his view the installation of a dropped kerb is an improvement to the property, it follows that the Council should pay for the dropped kerb.
However, what is clear from the comments made by Mr Davies, the main thrust of his application for a dropped kerb is to protect his car from damage, a very understandable sentiment but nothing to do with improving the property.
Finally, Mr Davies refers to the privately owned houses opposite his house and confirms they have all had dropped kerbs installed – does he think the Council paid for the works or could it be the residents had to pay?
I wish Mr Davies well with his application but if he wants to have a safer home for his car he really does have to pay the price.
