WE are torn between delight that Wendy Lee successfully chased two thieves in a supermarket car park and rage at what the criminals did.

To call the attackers pigs would be a grave disservice to pigs.

It is obvious that they carefully chose the 69-year-old as she sat in a car in a disabled bay outside Tesco in Ocotal Way.

What the despicable pair of leeches failed to realise, of course, was that Mrs Lee, the passenger, was not disabled.

When Mrs Lee exited the car and gave chase, they were sufficiently surprised to drop the debit card they had stolen.

We urge all our readers to remember that car parks are increasingly a lucrative prowling area for creatures of the kind who targeted Mrs Lee.

Their typical tactic, as was the case here, is for one to create a loud distraction, perhaps including putting their hands on the target, while an accomplice rifles property.

The best precaution is situational awareness. If you are waiting in a parked car, keep the doors locked and be on the lookout for suspicious characters.

It is to be hoped that thorough combing of CCTV footage will produce clear images of the thieves who targeted Mrs Lee. They have shown themselves to be completely devoid of morals, and seem to be well-versed in their chosen criminal technique.

This suggests that for as long as they remain at liberty they will be a danger to anybody they perceive as vulnerable.

They must be caught and shown absolutely no mercy.
