THE letter pages currently carry a notice to the effect that during the current General Election campaign there will be no letters on “political” subjects printed.
This, it seems to me, has given more space to a topic which is popular among far too many people in what seems to be an increasingly xenophobic country.
The preponderance of bile-filled and vitriolic comments on matters of immigration and of religion seems to stand out more starkly as part of the daily diet of this increasingly nasty aspect of British society.
A really unpleasant part of the newspaper for the time being.
And a topic that — even were the so-called “political” letters to be allowed — far too few politicians seem to care about anyway other than riding on its back to help them get elected.
