THE London Olympics in 2012 were a waste of taxpayers’ money. The final cost was about £9 billion and that was a massive amount of money to waste for a poor country like Britain.
It was all done on borrowed money. Although the Olympic debts have officially been paid off, the debts were paid off by borrowing more money, which in my mind is not paying off the debts at all. So in fact the taxpayers are still paying the interest on those Olympic debts.
It is suggested the London Olympics were a boost to British trade but during 2012 the current account deficit rose dramatically. According to the trade statistics the Olympics made our trading position worse, not better.
While the poor suffer from the bedroom tax and the police can no longer afford to investigate all burglaries, that £9 billion could have been better spent helping the poor and keeping us safe in our beds at night.
