I AM so glad that Wayne and Rebecca spoke up about putting things on graves (SA, letters, July 8).

And why not? These two people have much to bear and if putting something on their son's grave brings them comfort, why shouldn't they have that option.

I tend one grave at Whitworth Road, I've paid my council tax on it £160 I may add, and there are small mementos from myself and family, they comfort us greatly.

Beside the grave I attend is the little boy who got knocked down with his dog, it is beautiful, the things that are on that grave, and if that brings his mum and dad a little bit of sunshine back to their world, what harm are they doing? Haven't these people been through enough?

Years ago I visited Radnor Street cemetery, what a bleak, depressing place it is, and how lovely the feeling is at Whitworth Road. Everyone nods or speaks, I think some of the tributes are lovely, let's keep it this way.

Why not make everyone responsible for their own plot? I'm sure we would all agree to cut our grass, keep it tidy etc, and comply to rules. If these mementos go, what a sad day for us all.
