Regarding Eunice Staples’ letter (SA, August 26) praising what we get from this Labour government.
Free bus passes, free TV licences, child benefit etc, etc. She must live in cloud cuckoo land.
Nothing is free, it has to be paid for. Governments and councils don’t have money. I, like thousands of others, worked from age 14 to 65, paid NHS, income tax and every indirect tax, all my life, never sponged off the state.
I now just live in a bed-sitter, but I pay over £600 council tax. I have paid for my ‘free’ bus pass and TV licence umpteen times over.
