NICHOLAS E Gough says he has seen the film Titanic three times. Obviously he thought it went down well (pun intentional).
For myself and a film I have watched often, the best representation of that tragic event remains A Night to Remember with the late, great Kenneth More, a film so accurate that it is more a dramatised documentary than anything else.
Before anyone writes in to mention things not shown, such as the ship breaking in two just before she sank, I would ask them to remember that some of these events were either unknown in 1958 when the film was made or very difficult to reproduce with the technology of over 50 years ago.
White Star Line has often been criticised for not carrying enough lifeboats in Titanic, but the fact is that the last boat to be launched was actually floated off. Even if twice the number of boats had been carried, as Harland and Wolff allowed for the original design, it is very doubtful that any more boats could have been got away.
