BILL Frindall, our very own Bearded Wonder, has died of legionnaires’ disease, aged 69. The late Brian Johnston popularised his nickname because of Frindall’s remarkable ability to enliven cricket’s scoring system. His meticulous approach as the Test Match Special scorer was nothing short of miraculous ever since he joined the radio programme in 1966.
Jonathan Agnew, the BBC’s cricket correspondent, said that Frindall had an incredible scoring system that made every ball an event. He knew about and could refer in detail to every delivery bowled.
