DOES the council fail to recognise that we are in the middle of a deep recession? Under normal circumstances I would say that it was good news that the old college site is to be redeveloped. Maybe, by the time it is completed the recession will be over and people will be able to afford to use the facilities.
Somehow, the council, once again, seems to have got its priorities wrong. They wonder why, if people have money to spend, they go to places such as Bristol and the new Cabot Circus shopping centre. Surely it would make sense for Swindon Council to use the old college site as the start of a rolling programme to modernise our town centre rather than build another leisure facility. Businesses are already suffering in the current climate yet the council seems not to want to do anything to help.
