PICKING UP the Adver (SA, February 15) I read the headline about the closure of the Swindon FC Study Centre. The main losers? Thousands of young children. The reason? Lack of funding.

Turning the page I read about a young lady who had her car broken into. Over a thousand car break-ins, the average over a ninth month period over the last three years in Swindon. The car park in question had no CCTV cameras. The losers? The motorists. The reason? Lack of funding.

A few pages on, protest set for council meeting at anger over cuts in council spending. Broadly speaking affecting almost the whole population of Swindon. I haven’t got the time, or the facts at hand, of how these decisions were come to be made. But somebody must have had both, to make these decision.

Perhaps these zealots and bean counters did this with compassion and caring and had no choice. As likely as a Yeti running a guest house for polar bears at the top of Ben Nevis. In my opinion.

Could the council, perhaps through the Adver, with this massive lack of funding, list the cuts they reluctantly will have to implement upon their executive staff section? As we are all in this together, the politicians keep telling us, the old adage applying that you don’t need as many chiefs, if you have less indians.
