I would like to take pastor Paul Williams to task over his assertion that atheism makes no sense.

Atheism is purely the lack of belief in God.

Having been raised to believe in the Almighty, over the years I have found nothing to support this idea and have subsequently changed my view and now consider myself to be a non believer.

Should I find credible evidence I would happily change my mind.

The pastor tells us the overwhelming majority believe in God, but, how many were raised to believe?

As children, we get no say in the matter, religion is foisted on us. I don’t know of any child who, of its own volition, has ever said to its parent: “Mummy, can we go to church?”

A child’s malleable mind is open to suggestion, being told something as fact by an adult will be believed without question, particularly if that adult has any kind of authority.

We are all products of our own upbringing and environment.

I dare say had pastor Williams been born in, let’s say, Afghanistan, he would now be a follower of Islam. I do have faith, but it’s a faith in humanity, mankind has taken huge strides in my lifetime, it’s an amazing time to be a part of the human race. The wonders of the world and beyond are being explored and explained.

With the advent of the computer we have a lifetime’s knowledge at our fingertips.

There is a rapidly growing atheist community, particularly on sites like Youtube, with hundreds of compelling videos which extol the virtues of humanity better than any holy book. I’d challenge anyone to watch “Science saved my soul” on Youtube and not be awestruck and inspired.
