AT the inquest into the tragic death of bin man Ian Moody (front page story on Saturday, February 19), it was suggested that his death may have been caused by an overfull bin. After the inquest, a spokesman for Swindon council confirmed that overloaded bins were a real problem.
May I suggest that this could be an indication that the policy of fortnightly waste collections is not working. Despite all the so called ‘education’ of householders on recycling, most families (especially those with young children in nappies) must be finding it difficult, if not impossible, to fit a fortnight's waste into their wheelie bins.
It's all very well warning houseowners not to overfill bins (what are they expected to do with the "surplus" waste!) but clearly if this is as big a problem as the council spokesman suggests, then the obvious solution is to revert back to weekly collections.
