AFTER reading the sad story of the bin man who lost his life while he was wrestling to get the overfull wheelie bin into the truck, it’s time to reinforce how important it is not to put recyclable material into them and contributing to an excess in refuse for collection.
My fiancée and I ensure that we use the recycling service provided by the council to the full. Absolutely nothing goes into our wheelie bin that can be recycled or composted and therefore only two carrier bags most weeks or a maximum of four are collected in our bin each fortnight. We are always horrified at the amount of recyclable products we see sticking out of some bins making them impossible to close. Plastic, paper and card for example. I think the council should fine those that repeatedly misuse the refuse collection service by not recycling what they can. Not only would this stop overfilling wheelie bins and making them too heavy to lift but it would encourage residents to do their duty and recycle.
