I JUST cannot believe that so many people, some of them quite intelligent too, are sucked into believing all the publicity as to the efficiency of wind turbines. Let’s just take the really simple facts shall we? They are only effective for 30 per cent of the time, for the remainder there is either too much wind or not enough and for the remaining 10 per cent they are down for maintenance. That's just the simple facts.

However, why do all these people never tell you what the carbon footprint is to manufacture these monstrosities? Mostly they are made of quite high tech materials which have a very large carbon footprint to manufacture. Some of these materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium, cables, insulation, and concrete for the base, very high carbon footprint to manufacture concrete. This is without all the machining of the various components. I have tried to get these so-called experts to tell me just what the carbon footprint is for one unit. Do you think I could get an answer. Yes, if you thought no you were right.

This is without the fact that they are a definite blot on the landscape. If you drive across some parts of Europe there are fields and fields of them. Imagine that as the view from your window. Would you want it? Well I certainly don't.

Let’s go back to the drawing board and try and figure out something practical. And to all the others going on about nuclear power after what has happened in Japan. Why don't we build nuclear power stations deep underground with a large reservoir of water to dump on them if any thing does go wrong.

At least that way, buried deep underground they would be shielded in the event of a serious problem.

I am now waiting for the responses to this if it is printed from all the "Greens".
