THAMESDOWN Transport is carrying out an internal investigation after video footage emerged of a bus mounting the pavement in North Swindon.

The incident occurred earlier this week when two Thamesdown buses – the 11 and 15A services – met head-on in Redhouse Way resulting in one bus having to take drastic measures to let the other one pass.

The parking situation in and around Redhouse Way has been a bone of contention for years, and the video footage highlights the extent of the problem.

Alex Chutter, Thamesdown Transport’s general manager, said: “I am aware of recent film involving a bus driver negotiating a tight bend whilst operating a Thamesdown service.

“The safety of our drivers, passengers and other road users is our number one priority and we are carrying out an internal investigation to establish the circumstances behind this footage.”

Damon Bower, vice chairman of the Haydon Wick Parish Council, has long been involved in trying to solve parking issues in the area.

He didn’t seek to blame Thamesdown for the traffic problems in Redhouse Way, but suggested that better communication between the drivers might help.

“It would be better if we didn’t have two buses going head to head in Redhouse Way,” he said.

“Some kind of inter-bus communication would be hugely beneficial.”

Parish councillors from Haydon Wick and Blunsdon St Andrew have met with North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson to try to find a solution to the parking problems.
