GREGORZ Beyer suffered a punch to the face in the town centre which led to his death just hours after he had been celebrating his daughter’s first Holy Communion with family and friends, the second day of a trial heard today.

Mr Beyer suffered the blow on May 2 last year in the town centre just hours after he had been celebrating his daughter’s first Holy Communion with family and friends, the second day of a trial heard today.

He died on May 4 in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a result of brain injuries suffered in the incident, the jury at Bristol Crown Court has heard.

Marcin Koscielniak is charged with Mr Beyer's manslaughter, which he denies.

Marcin’s brother, Zbigniew, is also on trial in the proceedings where he faces a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

During this morning’s proceedings, the jury heard evidence from witness Daniel Halsall who was a street marshal on duty at the time.

As part of his role, he told the court that he had a body camera which captured footage of his exchanges with Marcin Koscielniak after the Polish man was thrown out of the Boston Brothers nightclub.

Mr Halsall told the jury he activates the camera when he believes a person may need assistance or if he believes the situation could escalate.

Asked by crown prosecutor Kerry Maylin about what information he knew about the ejection from the club, Mr Halsall told the court: “I had it confirmed with the door staff that it was down to him being intoxicated and being volatile in the club.”

The court was then shown footage of the interaction.

Mr Halsall explained he saw the Koscielniak brothers multiple times during the course of the evening including before a bust-up between them and Grzegorz Beyer’s friend Lucasz Domalgala as the latter group made their way through town.

“There seemed to be an altercation or some sort of disruption taking place in that area,” Mr Halsall explained.

“I heard a lot of pushing and shoving but I couldn’t see who was doing what.”

It was a couple of hours later that the court heard that the groups met again as the trio made their way home, which is when Grzegorz Beyer was hit, falling to the ground backwards, hitting his head on a concrete slab.

The trial continues.
