Swindon Town have promised to treat a six-year-old boy to a free match ticket after he wrote a letter to the club saying his mum couldn't afford to take him to watch the team play.

The club is on the hunt to find 'Joe' and his family after a picture of his letter in which he wrote that his mum had "no money for food" went viral. The six-year-old also enclosed 26p for his favourite player Harry McKirdy.

Swindon Town has reassured the public that Joe and his family will be receiving very special treatment when they are found.

And, thanks to Joe's letter, the club will be setting up a food bank donation point at the County Ground to support Swindon Food Collective.

A JustGiving page has been set up to help the family out and £2,772 has already been raised overnight.

The club tweeted: "We would like to thank everyone who has reached out in our search for Joe.

"We are currently still searching for Joe and his family and, once we have made contact, we will be ensuring that they get to a game in style and are well looked after by the club.

"In light of young Joe getting in touch with the Club, and the struggles that many families have, working with Great Western Reds we are joining forces with Swindon Food Collective.

The town shared the letter yesterday afternoon. It reads: "Mummy doesn't have any money to come to Swindon games because she has no money for food and has to pay for my dinner at schol [sic].

"I like Swindon Town Harry McKirdy. I will come one day. Joe, 6-and-a-half."
