The A419 has been partially shut for repairs at the Commonhead Roundabout due to “safety concerns” over the road.

A 300-metre section of lane one, on the northbound carriageway on the flyover, has been closed after deterioration of the road was identified.

The A419 closed in the same location in February, after work carried out in January to fix a “safety critical pothole” on the flyover failed to resolve the issue.

Andrew Gale, National Highways’ service manager for the southwest, says the closure is to complete temporary repairs while a permanent solution is found.

He said: “We’ve been monitoring the condition of the carriageway surface over the Commonhead roundabout and have been carrying out running repairs ahead of a more permanent scheme to repair the bridge.

“The lane one carriageway has shown signs of further deterioration and we’ve closed a 300-metre section of the carriageway due to safety concerns ahead of temporary repairs being carried out this week.

“The bridge will eventually require a longer-term solution further down the line, but in the meantime we’re currently planning a more extensive carriageway repair within the coming weeks.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank drivers for their patience and co-operation while we work to rectify the issue.”

National Highways added more temporary works are scheduled for 8pm Wednesday to 6am Thursday, but are weather dependent.

The northbound carriageway will close completely during that time.
