The company which installed the original wave machine in the Oasis Leisure Centre are "delighted" that the refurbished plans for the historic centre will contain a wave machine.

Murphy’s Waves also confirmed that an engineer has already been sent out to assess the swimming pool, and has confirmed that the machine will have to be replaced with a new one.

It comes after Swindon Borough Council announced earlier this week that the plans, which will need to obtain planning permission, will see a wave machine in the Grade II-listed facility.

The move was after SevenCapital had said that the operational cost of the machine made it unviable.

Jim Stuart, Managing Director of Murphy’s Waves said: “We are delighted with the news that the wave machine at Oasis will be reinstated, it was always one of our iconic installations in the UK.

“A few months back one of my Waves Engineers visited the Oasis LC (Leisure Centre) to carry out an appraisal of the wave pool and the old wave system and whilst the wave machine will need to be replaced, the good news is that the pool and the wave machine room are structurally sound, so a refit of a new low power BREAKER Wave Machine will be fairly straightforward for us.”
