A new venue is set to open in the former home of Woodys in Old Town next year.

Social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for the Route 66 Swindon sports bar and grill have appeared online.

The business describes itself as a classic American sports bar in the heart of Old Town and will be serving food and drink from 25 Wood Street, which used to be known as Brass Monkey before undergoing a short-lived relaunch as Woodys earlier this year.

It will open its doors in 2024 and show live sport seven days a week, though a precise date has not yet been revealed.

A spokesperson said: "Keep an eye on our socials for updates and sneak peeks."

A teaser clip soundtracked by AC/DC's Highway to Hell offers an idea of what to expect.

It includes a montage of American iconography like the Las Vegas strip and the iconic main road that gives the venue its name, as well as footage from American football, Formula One, and basketball mixed with shots of people pouring drinks and DJing under colourful lights.

The announcement brings to mind a previously-popular Swindon hotspot with the same name.

A nightclub called Route 66 entertained revellers throughout the 1990s and was also known as Hardings, Kaos, and Destiny and Desire.
