A new nightlife venue is set to open in Old Town soon.

Woodys on Wood Street has been closed for a number of months, but now new banners placed on the outside of the building show that it will soon be revived as Route 66.

The new offering which will be an American sports bar and grill is set to open in February 2024 and is already active on social media pages like Facebook and TikTok

It is currently looking for staff members, with positions for bar and waiting staff, support staff and chefs advertised.

Although the exact opening date isn't known yet, the business is also having a grand opening giveaway where potential revellers can win vouchers worth £100, £50 and £25.

When open the venue will be showing sport seven days a week, but it has also teased something 'extra special' for broadcasting live fights such as boxing and mixed martial arts from DAZN, TNT Sports and Sky Sports.

Brass Monkey operated out of 25 Wood Street before undergoing a short-lived relaunch as Woodys last year.

The revamp took place over three weeks, with staff still scrambling to get the venue ready in time for the grand opening on Friday, February 10, 2023.

The renovation was said to have cost £150,000 with changes throughout the full venue and garden.

But after a period of months, signs were put in the window announcing it was closed again for 'essential maintenance' from which it never reopened.

In November last year, members of the public started to wonder what had happened

Then, in December, Route 66 was officially confirmed with a teaser announcement on social media.

At the time, a spokesperson said: "Keep an eye on our socials for updates and sneak peeks."

A teaser clip soundtracked by AC/DC's Highway to Hell offered an idea of what to expect.

It included a montage of American iconography like the Las Vegas strip and the iconic main road that gives the venue its name, as well as footage from American football, Formula One, and basketball mixed with shots of people pouring drinks and DJing under colourful lights.

This will not be the first Route 66 to delight Swindon locals, as this new venture borrows its name from a previously popular Swindon hotspot with the same name,

A nightclub called Route 66 entertained revellers throughout the 1990s and was also known as Hardings, Kaos, and Destiny and Desire.
