In an update provided by Swindon Borough Council, it has been confirmed that the burst water main in West Swindon caused 'significant damage'.

Both Great Western Way and Mead Way were closed by police in the early hours of Friday morning after flooding turned them into 'rivers' making them impassable.

Thames Water has been at the site on Friday trying to fix the issue, but there is currently no known time for when the roads might reopen.

Swindon Borough Council has been assisting at the scene also, and has provided an update to say that it is not sure when things will return to normal.

A spokesperson said: "Mead Way experienced a significant burst water main in the early hours of this morning (15/03/2024). As a consequence of this, Great Western Way from Mannington Roundabout through to Barnfield Roundabout (Inbound only) has been closed.

"As well as Mead Way from Rivermead Industrial Estate to Great Western Way (both directions),  as a result of the consequential damage from the flooding experienced. Access to Rivermead Industrial Estate is being maintained from the north (Withymead End).

"We are working closely with Thames Water to ensure this is rectified and roads reopened as soon as possible, however, the damage caused is significant.

"A further update will be sent as the works progress."
