GOALKEEPER Lewis Ward has signed a contract extension with Swindon Town.

The 24-year-old arrived at The County Ground in the summer on trial before agreeing an initial one-year deal shortly after new owner Clem Morfuni took over.

The former Exeter City stopper has made seven appearances and kept two clean sheets - including an outstanding display against Forest Green Rovers during a 2-0 win in October.

Ward follows Ellis Iandolo in agreeing a new contract with Town - with the defender putting pen to paper on an improved deal on Tuesday night.

As Swindon remain under a transfer embargo, it is believed that the new deals are no longer than a year and that both players will now be contracted to the club until July 2023.

In a statement on Town's website, the club's director of football, Ben Chorley said: "Wardy is a pleasure to have around the squad, he shows a fantastic willingness to make the team and the club better, and he's exactly the type of character this club needs.

"He is part of a very strong goalkeeping unit that works tirelessly with Steve Mildenhall. We're very happy to have Wardy on board for the journey going forward."

Ward - who was the second signing of the summer behind Ben Gladwin - also had his say on his new contract.

He said: "I'm very happy. The summer was very difficult for everyone involved, whether it was players remaining at the club from last season or new players coming in.

"Initially it was a difficult time, but now I'm delighted to be part of the club and hopefully stay here for longer.

"The club is going in a very promising direction and I want to build and grow with the club and make Swindon Town a home for me.

"I want to stay here for a number of years and really cement my place."
