Urban explorers have entered and filmed the inside of a council-owned former night-club building that closed in 2018, revealing what it looks like now.

YouTube channel Kirbz Vids, the same group responsible for videos on groups entering the Oasis Leisure Centre among other high-profile abandoned landmarks in the town, has posted a new video of the inside of Media nightclub.

The Theatre Square venue has been empty for the last few years after closing in October 2018 and the building itself, which is owned by Swindon Borough Council, is currently available for rent and still has planning permission to be a nightclub.

The video of the inside shows that a lot of the club's furniture and belongings are still present in the backstage areas, including chairs, patio heaters, old CDs, and old computers and that the layout of the club itself remains largely unchanged from when it closed four years ago.

A spokesperson from Kirbz Vids said: "The building is in pretty good condition still to be honest as it has not been vandalised.

"But it does have a rat issue that would need to be sorted out, as there is a lot of rat poo in there on the floors.

"We need some of Swindon's classic sites back up and open."

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson previously commenting on urban exploring said: "While it is not a criminal offence to trespass, it is clear from this website that these people are going into structures that are either derelict or are going to be demolished.

"Our advice to these people would be to stay out of these structures because if they injure themselves it could be hours or even days before help arrives. If something does happen it also puts the lives of those people in the emergency services at risk when they have to rescue these people as well."

Medina was opened by David Broome, the former owner of what was once Foxies strip club, in 2014.

But it was allegedly forced to kick clubbers out early when bailiffs attended the premises in the early hours of the morning amid claims of unpaid rents.

In a statement on Facebook at the time, a club spokesperson said: “Sorry [day] today it’s been decided to close Medina, we have really enjoyed being part of the Swindon nightlife for last few years but due to increasing overheads, licensing conditions and poor location and the massive impact running medina takes out of our private life’s we don’t feel the venue could be sustainable.”
