More details have been revealed about the circumstances of the crash on County Road.

Police closed the entire length of the busy route through the town centre for around five hours on Saturday after an accident at the Manchester Road junction.

In response to the Adver's reporting of the incident, the wife of one of the people involved in the collision got in touch to discuss what happened.

The Swindonian, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that her husband was waiting at the mini-roundabout at the Manchester Road exit, giving way to traffic coming down County Road from the Magic Roundabout, when a Ford Kuga crashed into the back of him.

This was the end result of a domino effect, as a Stagecoach bus had hit a black BMW convertible, the impact of which had sent that car into the rear of the Kuga which was then propelled forward into his white Vauxhall Agila.

After this crash happened, the Stagecoach bus continued forward at speed, careened off the side of the road, and came to a stop after hitting a garden wall, phone booth, and electrical cabinet.

When police cordoned off the junction, the BMW and Ford were wedged together over a broken traffic island while the Vauxhall had moved left onto County Road.

The white car was later driven away while the other two had to be winched onto tow trucks.

The Agila driver's wife took him to urgent care at Great Western Hospital, which the Ford driver also attended, but the couple returned home after being told there was a five-hour wait.

After resting for a few hours, the driver began his usual duties as an Imam who leads night prayers and Quran recitations after midnight, known as Taraweeh, for people working late.

His partner admired his dedication to the task after the shock of the crash and was relieved that he had escaped relatively unharmed.

They returned to GWH on Sunday morning and were seen quickly. He is now recovering at home with painkillers and physiotherapeutic movements.

They would like to send food and flowers to the two people taken to hospital - understood to be the drivers of the bus and the BMW - but do not know their names.

Witnesses to the crash are advised to contact police on 101 quoting log 223 of Saturday, March 30.
